The handpiece is systematically moved over the skin while aluminum oxide crystals (exfoliating medium) are propelled onto the skin. The  advantage of using aluminium oxide crystals is they are inert (substance that is not chemically reactive), reducing the chance of allergic or adverse reaction while.

Your dermal clinician may recommend you have a combination of treatments, (e.g post fractional laser, dermapen and in between peels) your clinician may also add on treatments to your microdermabrasion such as our Oxygen Infusion, Pomegranate, peptide infusion mask, LED light therapy or Lactic peels. However Microdermabrasion can be effective on its own and combination therapies may not always be required. An individual plan is always personalised for each patient.

The number of treatments will be determined by the condition being treated or the desired goal. Often clients will need more than one treatment to achieve a satisfactory result, however you will start to see and feel changes immediately post treatment due to Microdermabrasions exfoliating effects.

Treatments are normally spaced 4-6 weeks apart, depending on the skin condition. As part of skin maintenance regime microdermabrasion may be an ongoing regular skin treatment or performed in a limited series, to then be followed by sustained home care and less frequent treatments. Your dermal clinician will discuss expected treatment frequency and number with you in your initial consultation.

Microdermabrasion is a relatively comfortable treatment. The treatment parameters are adjusted for more sensitive areas, such as around the eyes. Your dermal clinician will also support the section of skin they are working on to further increase comfort.

Immediately after the microdermabrasion it is an expected that you skin may feel tight, with mild erythema (pinkness), this may last for 1-24 hours after treatments. In the days to follow you may also notice slight dryness of the skin, however with the regular application of a mild moisturiser this will appear less apparent and resolve quickly. Your dermal clinician will advise you on the post treatment skincare plan. You can return to daily activities immediately after these treatments.

Microdermabrasion is not recommended for people who have deep scars, active keloids, undiagnosed lesions, a recent herpes outbreak, warts on the face, skin cancer, active acne (stages 3 and 4), sunburns or active rosacea, eczema, autoimmune system disorder, or unstable diabetes. Individuals with deep scars, facial creases, or other moderate-to-severe skin defects should consider a stronger treatment such as chemical peels, skin needling and Fractional Resurfacing Laser.
