LED light therapy

So what is LED light therapy and what exactly does it do for your skin?

You have probably noticed the futuristic LED light therapy treatments and wondering what light therapy even is and if it actually works. It is normal to be skeptical of a treatment that is both painless, non-invasive and even considered relaxing that can do so much. LED light therapy has earned its rightful spot on the A-list most sought after treatments! In demand by hollywoods finest and considered the go-to treatment for everyone wanting the red carpet glow!

lets break it down, what is LED light therapy?

To put it simply, LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. Without talking gibberish too much, it is a light source that emits infrared light (and thereby, heat). Not to be confused with laser, the light therapy was originally developed to fast track the healing of wounds and post surgery scars. The rejuvenation of healthy skin, too, was a happy coincidence. LED delivers optimised light at a specific wavelength to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, target active acne, and reduce inflammation post-treatment.

What is the difference between the coloured lights?

Blue light acts as a powerful anti-acne treatment, working to cure blemishes by starting at the root cause: the p-acne bacteria (porphyrin) that causes acne. The blue wavelength has the ability to penetrate the skin and produce radical oxygen that induces bacterial death and eradicating the inflammation effects of acne. Reducing further breakouts as its anti-bacterial properties decongest and purify problem skin and help normalise oil production.

The red light acts as an anti-wrinkle and skin rejuvenation therapy. The infrared uses a long wavelength, which has been proven to activate cell regeneration, fibroblasts and stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. As a result, it helps to substantially reduce wrinkles and fine lines; and prevents the ageing of the skin overtime.

Infrared light acts as an anti-inflammatory and healing therapy. With the deepest penetrating wavelength compared to red and blue LED, it promotes faster healing and stimulates the greatest collagen and elastin production.

Benefits of starting LED light therapy in your 20’s?

Starting in our 20s, we begin losing valuable collagen – the critical building block to keeping skin elastic and firm – at a rate of over 1% each year. Therefore, by the time we reach our 50s, fine lines, wrinkles, and blemishes truly start to be a concern. Add in factors like stress, genetics, sun exposure, and more, and the physical signs of ageing are even more exaggerated.

Since collagen loss begins in one’s 20s, experts agree that LED light therapy should be used in your mid twenties “in order to be proactive and to offset those effects.”

But you know what? It is NEVER too late to start taking care of your skin. So no matter your age, your skin is only going to benefit from effective, results driven treatments!
